The charity wing of ZOP now operates as both a distributor of donated charity items and in partnership with other NGOs around the archipelago. Charity donations are collected from many parts of the world including Oman, Dubai, the UK and Denmark, as well as locally in Zanzibar.
The Pemban villages of Micheweni, Sebudawa, and Maziwa Ng’ombe and in Unguja, Charawe and Bubwini have all received charity in the form of donated second-hand clothes.
It was because of the outreach work in schools (the School Health Monitoring Project) that the charity arm of ZOP came into being. Levels of poverty were noted and in response, ZOP started a charity project. It now operates as both a distributor of donated charity items and in partnership with other NGOs around the archipelago.
Most of the charity items are used clothes, household objects and food. ZOP collects these items throughout the world but mainly from Oman and the UK. Once there is enough collected, a date is set for the distribution of the items to the needy communities in Zanzibar. With donations from Oman, Dar-es-Salaam and London, ZOP was able to make a lot of people happy. The collected charity items, which included bags of dates, books and clothes, were distributed to several villages in Unguja and Pemba
