The goal of this project, which IMPACT UK mainly sponsors, is the development of community water units in different parts of Unguja and Pemba. The placement of water units has been a high priority of ZOP’s since the Community Water Supply project was officially introduced in early 2008. The policy for the tanks, which range from 2,000 to 5,000 liters, is to place them into areas with a minimum of 500 people. The units are donated to individual/community well owners or schools on the condition that their water supply already serves the community. This way efficiency is enhanced and the distance that villagers have to walk to get their water is reduced.
